Welcome to Duncan, Oklahoma

Duncan is a welcoming small city of about 23,000 people in Stephens County, Oklahoma. It is roughly 80 miles south of Oklahoma City (about an hour and 20 minutes) and about 140 miles northwest of Dallas, Texas (about two hours to the border).

While Duncan is fairly rural, it is growing. The local government just approved the highway expansion, which is expected to attract new people and businesses. It sits in the heart of Oklahoma’s prairie country and is known officially as the “Crape Myrtle Capital” for its beautiful summer blooms throughout town.

Community & Culture

The downtown area features a historic Main Street lined with local boutiques, antique shops, cafés, and family-friendly eateries. It’s a great place to stroll, explore, and discover one-of-a-kind finds from locally owned businesses.

Duncan definitely celebrates its history, especially its place on the legendary Chisholm Trail. At the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center (a very fun and educational museum), you’ll find interactive exhibits, western art, and outdoor trail ruts that trace the paths cattle once roamed. There is also a walking path with a park that goes around the center, and is nice for jogging or just hanging out!

Shopping & Everyday Amenities

Duncan has just about everything you need to live. We have a Walmart, Game Stop, Clothing Stores, 7 Brews, Braums, Dominos, Popeyes, Jimmy’s Egg (if you haven’t been there, think Denny’s), and even a little movie theater! We don’t have a large hardware store like Lowe’s yet, but there are several smaller ones that carry the basics, and there is a Lowe’s and Home Depot just about 30 minutes away in Lawton. And just about all of these places are along the one main road in town, making it super easy to get around! We also have a nice hospital as well as just about everything else you could need medically.

And yes, we have high-speed internet!

Parks & Recreation

Duncan is surrounded by natural beauty and outdoor opportunities. Within and around the city you’ll find:

  • Several lakes for fishing, boating, and picnicking. (Duncan Lake has an incredible walking path that often has lots of deer that will come right up to you, and love to be fed!)

  • Parks with trails, playgrounds, disc golf (some people, like Andy Bernard, live to Frolf!), and green spaces.

  • Community events, rodeos, festivals, and art walks throughout the year.

Cost of Living

Duncan is one of, if not THE cheapest, city to live in in Oklahoma. The people are super friendly, it’s safe, and while it doesn’t have all the big city things, if you really need to go to an AMC theater there is a nice one not far away in Lawton. Anything you can’t find in Lawton, you can find in Oklahoma City, and if you can’t find it in Oklahoma City, you can drive in the opposite direction toward Texas and find it in the Denton area!
